Yoga

Hatha: The branch of yoga which concentrates on physical health and mental well-being. Hatha yoga uses bodily postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dyana) with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind.

Kundalini: A dynamic form of yoga that awakens awareness using breath exercises, movement with meditative focus, and sound in the form of mantra.  We have fun in class discharging tension and toxins!  In addition to strengthening the health and well-being of the physical body, it is very useful for emotional balance, mental clarity, stress relief, and personal transformation.

Indoor Cycling/Spin Class

Most commonly know as spinning, this is an uniquely tailored program to suit a wide range of abilities and fitness goals. Each class begins with a warm-up, includes a dynamic, varied workout, followed by a cool-down and stretching. You can go at your own pace by controlling the resistance on your spinner bike, this makes the class enjoyable for cyclists of all experience and fitness levels.

Dance/Tap

Class begins with a simple warm up that focuses on moving and extending the spine. Gentle stretches then prepare the body for exercises that give dancers the opportunity to focus on their core, hips, knees, and ankles. Short sequences explore different movement qualities with an emphasis on technique that is safe for each person’s body. Class ends with fun and dynamic traveling steps followed by a short cool down. Wear anything you are comfortable moving in. We work barefoot or in socks.

Outdoor Rowing with ARC

In the fall of 2010, a year-round rowing program was created for CTTS adding a new depth to the group’s wide range of activities. The local non-profit, Austin Rowing Club, support this program by providing training facilities, volunteer coaches, and equipment for the CTTS Rowing Team use. Thanks to its mild weather and easy access to Lady Bird Lake, Austin hosts rowing teams year-round from around the country. CTTS Rowing Team members are encouraged to compete in local regatta races and indoor events as teams and/or individuals.

Indoor/ERG Rowing

Ro Fitness provides low-impact, total-body, high-energy indoor rowing workouts for all fitness levels. It’s a one-hour interval workout class, carefully crafted to challenge all fitness levels on the indoor rowing machines. Instructors at Ro teach thorough injury-preventative technique while challenging each person with individual goals. No experience is necessary for these classes!

Mat Pilates

Pilates workouts focus first on developing strength through the core of the body-the back, abdomen and hips. This provides a foundation to continue working the rest of the body. The concentration is not only on strength but also flexibility and coordination. Benefits of Pilates gives practitioners improved posture, increased lung capacity, and strong, sculpted muscles. Its emphasis on all around, complete fitness supports a variety of fitness goals, from building strength to increasing flexibility.

Walk/Run/Hike

Running and walking are both excellent aerobic exercises to build your cardiovascular fitness. Both will help promote weight loss, improve your sleep, elevate your mood, boost your energy level, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Both are social activities as well, and our team likes to keep social!

On Your Own: Members are encouraged to form their own walking or running groups on their own. Find someone in your area and set a day & time each week to go out for a walk!

Zumba

Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be ‘FUN AND EASY TO DO’ in order to achieve long-term health benefits. Zumba is not only great for the body, but it is also great for the mind. It is a ‘feel happy’ workout.

Strength and Conditioning

Strength Training, sometimes called Resistance Training, or Conditioning encompasses many different types of developing the tissues of the body. Usually it refers to building muscle. But resistance training also has been shown to build or maintain bone density. And some forms of strength training, such as training done in intervals, can also have cardiovascular benefits. The term resistance is used because strength training is any training moving a joint of the body against resistance. This can be done with your own body weight, light dumbbells, resistance bands, and/or heavier barbell lifting. Different classes that fall into this category will offer different forms of resistance training to build strength. Keep in mind that building strength doesn’t mean you have to bulk up. The health benefits of building strength are far more extensive than just toning your body.

Boxing/Kickboxing

We currently offer boxing and kickboxing classes at East Austin Athletic Club. Generally this starts out with learning the techniques of hitting and kicking with a bag or by moving across the floor. This is a full body exercise that can build strength, confidence, and cardiovascular benefits.
